The Homeschool Mother's Journal
In my life this week...
My life has been crazy for the last several weeks.  Between school and housekeeping, we finally have our new newsletter out and two new videos made, there is new ministry "stuff" going on all over the place,  I've had my hands full!

In our homeschool this week...
We're finally back on track after a few weeks of random teaching.   Each of our children were challenged to become proficient in their own ministry area, my youngest daughter chose clowning, my oldest hasn't decided yet so she is just pitching in everywhere.  So we've added quite a few things to our homeschool study.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We were in town on Monday at a park near the police station, the girls asked to see inside the jail.  Because they didn't have any prisoners at the moment they were gladly invited in.  The jail is over 100 years old too.  What fun!  It never hurts to ask.

We are just a few weeks from completing our assignment here so we are getting ready to head back to MN for intineration and preparation for our next assignment, the girls are excited to see their friends from "back home."   So I'm sure we'll be taking a few weeks off as we travel and visit.

My favorite thing this week was...

Well, since I haven't been doing this for a few weeks I'm voting for Mother's day.  We went up to the largest waterfall in Nebraska, Smith Falls. It was fun to romp around in the State Park.

What's working/not working for us...

School, the fact that its happening, is working just fine.

Homeschool questions/thoughts...

Because we have to stop schooling to handle ministry responsibilities (traveling, packing, moving, visiting, writing, editing, etc.) I'm always worried that we are falling behind.  Because of all the time off we have throughout the year we need to homeschool year-round, but I still feel behind.   It's a hard thing to overcome, even though I know were not failing.

In my life this week...
Its been one of those weeks, just can't seem to find energy and drive.  I suppose it could be that we've have cold, cloudy weather and today I woke up to a blanket of snow... I'm a sunshine kind of girl.

In our homeschool this week...

Its been a slow week, but we've managed to stay on track.  Not quite as enthusiastic as usual, but getting it done none the less.  On a positive note, we've been reading through Little House on the Prairie, and today I'll be making pioneer bonnets for the girls.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

On Tuesday we had a nice day so we went to see the goats, the girls were asked to help move the little kids to the new pen.  Wow, quite the experience, they did not want to go.  They were scarred too, so by the time the girls helped him move all 16 kids the girls were exhausted.  They loved every minute of it!

My favorite thing this week was...

Not homeschool related, but we had visitors.  The regional directors for Hard Hats for Christ came to check on the project.  It was fun to meet them and spend a few days getting to know them.  Dennis even worked with Jacob on Tuesday.
What's working/not working for us...

Nothing to report.

Homeschool questions/thoughts...

I read an interesting article this week about Generation Z.  What do you think? Will they revolutionize education and the workforce?

In my life this week...

My youngest daughter lost her 6th tooth, they are dropping like flies!  One of the churches here had a roller party at a nearby roller rink, haven't been on a set of wheels since I was a kid!  It was the first time for the girls and it was quite funny, wobbly me trying to support another little wobbly child.

A friend of mine is  considering homeschooling, its been a joy to answer some of her questions.  I remember the scary stage, when you are terrified you might destroy your children.

In our homeschool this week...
The girls have gotten a lot of extra outside time in the awesome weather, so we've been schooling in the afternoon.  Watching the brave robins has been fun, they will get fairly close, within 10 feet.  And seeing the little eaglets and watching the Eagles feed them has been exciting.

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We went over to the youth center to help DH this week. Otherwise, close to home as usual.

My favorite thing this week was...
The beautiful weather that allowed us to do our schooling outside.  I am looking forward to making it a more regular activity.

What's working/not working for us...

Everything seems to be running very smoothly, nothing I'd like to change.

Homeschool questions/thoughts...
Question:
Wondering how many of you attend a homeschool convention and what are your reasons for attending?

In my life this week...

We were incredibly blessed with an 85% reduction of my hosptial bill and a $500 check toward our new $805 bill! The Lord is so good!
My youngest daughter lost her 5th tooth, which is always cause for cellebration.

In our homeschool this week...

We've been watching the Decorah Eagle in anticipation of their first hatchling of the season! I encourage you to check it out! The eggs are expected to hatch today (April 1, 2011) and I'm sure we'll be glued to the screen as much as possible.

We started a Latin program this week.  Getting Started with Latin, I love the layout and progression so far, the cost was a huge bonus for us (about $19.00) with free online Audio and Commentary.  It is written by William Linney who has a passion for Latin and wrote this specifically for his niece, a homeschooler!

We've avoided going outside this week.  Although we go out throughout the winter, it is so hard to go out into the cold 30's after we've been teased with 60 and 70 degree weather a week ago! We are expecting fantastic weather this weekend!

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

We've been invited out to a farm to see the new baby calves, lambs and kids! As soon as they are born they will give us a call, the girls are very excited about the opportunity!

My favorite thing this week was...

The Eagles are pulling in to first place this week, what a joy it is to live with today's technology!
We had dinner guests from one of the churches we are serving, it was great to spend time with them and the fact that she was a homeschooling mom was a bonus!

What's working/not working for us...

Loving our schedule, it makes life so much easier.

Homeschool questions/thoughts...

I decided to start documenting our homeschool supply list for 2011, we can actually recieve a 75% state refund of our educational expenses so documentation is important.  I also wanted to have an acurate idea of our yearly cost to homeschool.  When your on a super tight budget like we are (hence our website resources!) I need to be sure I'm not wasting what we do have.  So I am armed with a quick chart for my planner!
